Esta ley pretende impulsar la incorporación de los valores de no
violencia, tolerancia, democracia, solidaridad y justicia en los
contenidos de los libros de texto, así como en materiales
audiovisuales, didácticos y educativos destinados al alumnado. También
se promoverán asignaturas especializadas en educación para la paz y
valores democráticos en todos los niveles del sistema educativo.
En concreto,
la Ley pretende promover un mayor conocimiento público sobre Derecho
Internacional humanitario o Derechos Humanos, así como enseñanzas
especializadas en resolución de conflictos, negociación y mediación.
Para ello, el Gobierno otorgará diferentes ayudas para aquellos que
deseen llevar a cabo estudios e investigaciones relacionados con estas
materias y promoverá el reconocimiento de iniciativas sociales y de
comunicación a favor de la paz.
En la misma línea, la
Administración se comprometió a formlizar su adhesión a la Agenda de La
Haya para la Paz y la Justicia en el Siglo XXI "lo antes posible" así
como a participar en aquellas iniciativas de la Unesco y Unicef
relacionadas con la celebración del "Decenio Internacional de la
promoción de una cultura de no violencia y de paz en beneficio de los
niños del mundo" (2001-2010).
